A common notebook typically uses paper at the weight around 80g-100g, compared to Tomoe River at only 52g. Even though the paper is thin, it’s famous for handling fountain pen ink very well. The paper shows excellent ink properties such as sheening (similar to an oil-slick look when the ink has dried) and shading (a change in ink color depending on how much ink is deposited on the page), with minimal bleed through.
Due to the thin nature of the paper, a ghost image of the writing will be apparent on the back side of the paper. This is quality is called ghosting or showthrough, but should not be mistaken for bleed through, where ink penetrates fully to the other side of the paper.
